Answer
Motif search
Find a motif in the sequence, IUPAC codes allowed for nucleotides, on both strands of DNA.
IUPAC codes for DNA or RNA (GAATTC, GRCGYC); one-letter codes for a protein.
Paste a sequence, or open an example, and every operation answers.
Open in the workbenchThe workbench carries this paste and offers every operation on it.
Worked example
- GRCGYC (G, A or G, C, G, C or T, C) on both strands of the first 1,500 bases of the lac operon: 4 matches, each with its strand and position.
- A protein motif matches letter for letter, with X for any residue.
Method
Each IUPAC code matches its set of bases; a protein motif matches letter for letter
Limits
- For research and education only, and not medical advice: nothing here is an assessment of any person's variant, sample or molecule, and a difference reported from a reference is a difference, not an interpretation.
- Sequence operations run locally. Optional UniProt lookup sends the submitted query and selected accession to rest.uniprot.org, never the separate pasted sequence. The Verify at ProtParam and BLAST at NCBI links upload what you send, and say so; an optional Bench backup uploads the Study you choose.
